Men's Lacrosse Has Six Scholar Athletes Honored & Was Named 2023 KCAC Team of Character
Wichita, Kan. – The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) and Barnes & Noble College are pleased to announce that 17 men's lacrosse student-athletes have been named 2023 KCAC Scholar-Athletes.
The University of Saint Mary led the conference with six men's lacrosse student-athletes earning the scholar-athlete distinction.
The All-KCAC Scholar-Athlete Academic Award recognizes excellence in the classroom by KCAC member student-athletes who:
- are sophomores or above in academic standing at the beginning of the semester in which they compete.
- carry a minimum 3.250 cumulative GPA at the beginning of the semester in which they compete.
- student-athletes must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended one full year at the KCAC institution to be eligible.
The 2023 KCAC Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athletes are:
- Landry Murley* | Senior | Dallas, Texas
- Weston Hutchings | Senior | Kansas City, Kan.
- Layne Riggs | Junior | Cheney, Kan.
- Garrett Carter | Senior | Pleasant Grove, Calif.
- Patrick Jones | Senior | Lyndon, Kan.
- Carter Hale | Senior | Overland Park, Kan.
The University of Saint Mary Men's Lacrosse team has also been awarded the KCAC Champions of Character Team of the Year honor for their sport in the 2023 season. The Spires have been involved in a variety of service projects around their campus and community, including, but not limited to hosting a bone marrow registry donor drive, youth lacrosse clinics, making blankets for those in need, hosting a high school character development retreat, serving as orientation leaders for new students, and serving as youth ministry leaders.
