Men's Lacrosse Beat Clarke 10-9 in Season Finale

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Lacrosse team traveled to play the Clarke Pride on Saturday in their regular-season finale, resulting in a 10-9 win. T. he Spires finished the year 2-10 overall and 0-4 in conference play. 

 

After Clarke struck first to take a 1-0 lead with 12 minutes to play, Bryce Vigil tied the game up at one with a goal three minutes later. With under seven minutes left in the quarter, Vigil found Tucker Yeley, who scored to give Saint Mary a 2-1 lead. Strong defensive play held the Pride scoreless as the second quarter began with the Spires holding onto a narrow 2-1 lead. Yeley opened the quarter with his second goal of the night to give eUSM a two-goal lead over the Pride. With time winding down before the half, Clarke came back within one goal of the Spires after scoring to make it a 3-2 game.

 

After the break, Dylan Haynes and Vigil scored back-to-back goals to give Saint Mary a 5-2 lead. A goal from Clarke cut into the growing USM lead, but with under four minutes to go in the quarter, Haynes scored his second and third goals of the night to make it a 7-3 game with 15 minutes to go. Tadje Moore and Haynes opened the final quarter goals to make it a 9-4 game. However, the Pride was not finished, as they scored five unanswered goals to tie the game at nine with under two minutes to play. With 15 seconds left in regulation, Jewelyan Peters scored the go-ahead goal to give the Sires a 10-9 win over Clarke.
