Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Soccer team hosted Ottawa University for a Saturday matchup that ended in a 6-3 loss. The Spires are now 4-2-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the KCAC.
In a game that had nine total goals scored, Saint Mary was on the board first after a strike from Romario Harding gave them an early 1-0 lead. After the early goal, each team had scoring opportunities, and fifteen minutes later, the Braves tied things up by scoring a goal of their own. A second goal from Ottawa, shortly after their first, gave them a 2-1 lead. With little time left in the half, Jan Stachura almost tied the game up at two with a header shot but missed wide.
The second half of play featured a bulk of the scoring Saint Mary tied things up after a goal from Anthony Rangel. Ottawa quickly responded with two goals to give them the 4-2 lead with twenty minutes to go. Guilherme Caldas got the Spires back within one after a goal in the seventy-sixth minute, making the score 4-3. Saint Mary was unable to continue the offensive pressure as time dwindled, and the Braves scored two more times to make the final score 6-3. Rangel led the Spires on offense by scoring a goal and assisting on another.
