Spires Score Six Against Avila in Fourth Straight Win

Kansas City, Mo.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Soccer team was on the road Wednesday afternoon as they took on the Avila Eagles, winning 6-2. The Spires are now 8-3-3 and 5-2-2 in the KCAC.

The Spires came out with a strong offensive attack, as they had multiple shots on goal within the first ten minutes of the game. Saint Mary found the back of the net in the eleventh minute as Jonathan Wilson assisted Paul Trejo, making the game 1-0. The Spires continued to apply offensive pressure as Shemari Hibbert scored with an assist from Anthony Rangel in the nineteenth minute. Just five minutes later, Guilherme Caldas found Rangel for the goal to extend the Spire's lead to 3-0. Avila then went on the attack as they scored two goals in the next ten minutes. Saint Mary looked to add to their lead before half as Rangel scored his second goal of the game, making it 4-2. In the forty-fourth minute, Kolby Shuck found Oscar Sandoval for a goal, giving the Spires a 5-2 lead going into halftime.

The second half started slowly as both teams began to take a more defensive approach. The Eagles had multiple shots, however, none were able to reach the back of the net. In the seventy-eighth minute, Rangel found Caldas for the score. This gave the Spires a 6-2 lead securing another conference win. Rangel led Saint Mary on offense with two shots on goal, an assist, and two goals in the contest.
