Spires Fall in Opening Round of KCAC Tournament

Bartlesville, Okla.- The Univerisity of Saint Mary Men's Soccer team traveled to take on the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles in round one of the KCAC Championship Tournament on Friday, resulting in a 4-1 loss. The Spires finished the year with an overall record of 5-8-6 and a KCAC record of 4-5-4. 

 

Saint Mary started the game on their heels, giving up six shots in the first ten minutes. The Eagles struck first, scoring twice in the span of six minutes to go up 2-0. As time wound down, Oklahoma Wesleyan scored another goal to make it a 3-0 game heading into halftime. 

 

After the break, Oscar Sandoval nearly made it a two-goal game early in the second half, but his shot sailed high of the net. The Eagles scored their final goal of the day at the 75-minute mark. Saint Mary was forced to play a man down shortly after the Eagle's last goal. With less than a minute to go, Jade Baartmann scored the only goal of the day for the Spires to make the final score 4-1.
