Swimming Sets National Marks At Sam Freas Invite

EDMUND, Okla. – The University of Saint Mary men's and women's swimming teams did not waste any time in setting some high standards in their first meet of the 2019-20 season, at the Sam Frease Invitational on Saturday.

The Spires earned national cuts in three different events – two for the men and one for the women. For the men, Will Dvorsky, Michael Witt, Brendan Jamerson and Weston Hutchings set the standard in the 200 medley relay. Witt, Jamerwson, Hutchings and Matthew Burton also set a mark in the 200 free relay.

On the women's side, Grace Sanford, Megan Cutting, Ellie Peery and McKinzie Horsley set a national standard in the women's 200 yard relay and a school record time of 2:04.12.

Other notable performances included Megan Dailey taking eighth in the 500 yard freestyle, Peery placing seventh in the 100 yard breaststroke – three seconds off the program record. She also took sixth in the 200 individual medley. Zachary Crumpacker placed 10th in the 500 yard freestyle, while Dvorsky took 13th.

Both swimming teams will travel to Topeka, Kan. for the Sunflower Showdown on Oct. 4 at 6 p.m.
