Swimming Falls To Midland Saturday To Open Season

MIDLAND, Neb. – After a long layoff, the University of Saint Mary swimming teams began their season with a trip to Midland University Saturday afternoon, where the men's and women's teams both fell to the Warriors. The men's squad was defeated 169-33, while the women's team fell 146-56.

Freshman Emma Will highlighted the group after she broke the school record in the 200 individual medley, with a third place finish in a time of 2:23.91.

Other highlights from the day included the women's 200 yard medley relay team of Will, Megan Cutting, Kelsey Taylor and Grace Sanford taking second place. The squad finished in a time of 1:59.92. Megan Dailey and Adrienne Dexel also took third and fourth in the 200 yard freestyle. Dailey finished in 2:14.09 and Dexel was timed at 2:16.77.

In the women's 50 yard freestyle, Tihani Contreras and McKinzie Horsley crossed the line in third and fourth place with times of 28.11 and 28.84, respectively.

In the women's 100 yard butterfly, Taylor nearly took the individual title after finishing second place in a time of 1:04.63. Taylor also placed second in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 5:38.76.

Braydon Kime took third place in the men's 100 yard butterfly with a time of 56.04. Grace Sanford took home the title in the 100 yard freestyle, beating out Midland's Abby Bruck with a time of 57.96.

Will and Sanford also highlighted the 100 yard backstroke placing second and third with times of 1:04.46 and 1:06.91.

UP NEXT
Both teams will compete at home on Oct. 24 when they host the Spire Relays at Lansing High School. The action will begin at 1 p.m.
