Swimming Takes 2nd, 4th At Host Meet Saturday

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary men's and women's swimming teams hosted their first meet of the year on Saturday afternoon, with the men taking second place and the women finishing in fourth. The men totaled 84 points and the women's side accounted for 56 points.

Overall, there were 23 total events with plenty of highlights from both sides for the Spires. In the second event of the day, Braydon Kime, Zachary Crumpacker and Weston Hutchings took second place in the 3x100 yard butterfly relay. The trio finished the event in a time of 2:55.19.

The fourth and fifth events of the day were highlighted by two high relay finishes for the men's and women's side. In the men's 3x100 yard backstroke relay Landon Adamo, Crumpacker and Tevin Covington took second place in a time of 3:07.62. In the same event on the women's side, Megan Cutting, Kelsey Taylor and Emma Will took home the title in a time of 3:50.71.

In the women's 400 yard medley relay, Will, Cutting, Taylor and McKinzie Horsley placed third with a time of 4:27.61. Will and Cutting would later team up with Megan Dailey in the 3x500 yard 1500 free relay to take second place in a time of 18:16.55. In the same event on the men's side, Adamo, Aaron Schafer and Crumpacker also took second place in a time of 16:55.32.

In the women's 4x100 individual medley relay, Will, Cutting, Taylor and Dailey placed third in a time of 4:37.78 – just five seconds behind Sterling College for second place.

"Overall it was a great day in the pool," head swimming coach David Bresser said. "I'm glad we had the opportunity to host such a fun and unique meet. We did well as a combined team and the men took second. We were mainly overwhelmed with numbers from Morningside.

"Our freshman continue to impress with (Kelsey) Taylor and (Emma) Will leading the way for the women. Both of them we very close to breaking school records with their lead-off splits. We were down some team members with quarantine but our upperclass (Megan) Cutting and (Megan) Dailey provided the leadership and foundation we needed. On the men's side (Braydon) Kime and (Landon) Adamo were the freshmen that contributed across a number of relays, with solid performances from (Zach) Crumpacker, (Tevin) Covington, (Brandon) Powell, (Weston) Hutchings, and (Aaron) Schafer.
