Swimming Teams Take Three Victories At Home Tri

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary swimming teams hosted Tabor and Sterling College today at Lansing High School, where the men's squad defeated Tabor 98-50 and Sterling 89-66. The women's team would split their tri event – defeating Tabor 112-37 and falling to Sterling by a narrow 96-80 score.

Emma Will and Kelsey Taylor led the women's side after setting school records. Will set the school record in the 400 individual medley with a time of 5:10.75, as well as the 200 yard backstroke in 2:19.49. Taylor set the program record in the 200 yard butterfly in 2:20.96, while finishing five seconds off the school record in the 200 yard freestyle at 2:09.08.

Also on the women's side, Adrienne Dexel took a first place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle with an outstanding time of 12:32.24. McKinzie Horsley took second place in the 200 yard freestyle behind Taylor, in 2:17.04, while Madison O'Donnell placed second in the 50 yard freestyle in 30.49.

Horsley and Dexel also took second and third place in the 100 yard freestyle in times of 1:01.89 and 1:03.43 respectively. Megan Dailey placed first in the 500 yard freestyle in 5:55.46, while O'Donnell took third in 6:40.33.

On the men's side, Brendan Jamerson took home the title in the 50 yard freestyle in 22.93, while Matthew Herko placed second in the 1000 yard freestyle in 13:20.37. Jamerson would also take the title in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.48, while teammate Jakob Hein followed close behind in second at 55.31.

Joe McGuire just missed the school record in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:44.74, while taking second in the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 2:18.37. Tevin Covington placed second in the 200 yard backstroke in 2:14.83 and Aaron Schafer took a second place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:41.38.

In the final events of the day, the women's team of Taylor, Dailey, Horsley and Will placed second in the 400 yard freestyle relay in 3:59.78. The men's relay team of Dylan Witt, Herko, McGuire and Hein took first place in 3:41.86.
