Swimming Falls To William Jewell, Four School Records Broken

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary swimming teams hosted their first event of the new year Saturday afternoon against NCAA Division II school William Jewell at Lansing High School. The men's team fell by a score of 149-52 and the women fell 133-59. A total of eight seniors were also recognized during the meet.

A total of four school records were broken on the day – three men's records and one women's.

Braydon Kime set two school records – a time of 2:04.80 in the 200 yard individual medley, while also breaking the school record in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 54.76. Justin Schaefer took home the other men's school record in the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 54.91.

Grace Sanford broke her own record in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:04.32. Sanford would also take third in the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 57.44 – just missing second place by .09 seconds.

Other women's highlights included Megan Dailey placing second in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 12:05.11. Kelsey Taylor and McKinzie Horsley finished second and third in the 100 yard butterfly with times of 1:04.79 and 1:09.31. Taylor also took second in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 5:40.43, while Madison O'Donnell and Anna Loch followed in third and fourth place.

Emma Will took third place in two events, highlighted by a time of 1:04.53 in the 100 yard backstroke.

On the men's side, the 200 yard medley relay team of Tevin Covington, Brendan Jamerson, Kime and Brandon Powell took third with a time of 1:42.02. Powell, Weston Hutchings and Covington would take 3-5 in the 50 yard freestyle to cap off the day.

Both teams will return to action on Friday when they host Barton Community College at 12 p.m. at Lansing High School.
