Swimming Performs Well At Tabor

MARION, Kan. – Another battle for the University of Saint Mary men's and women's swimming teams, put them against conference foes Tabor College and Sterling College Saturday afternoon on the campus of Tabor.

The men's team took down both schools – Tabor 161-15 and Sterling – 142-40. The women's team split on the day defeating Tabor 134-40 and falling to Sterling 103-83.

The squads started off the day with the 200 yard medley relay events, with the women's team of Grace Sanford, Emma Will, Kelsey Taylor and McKinzie Horsley placing second. The men's team had two groups compete and take first and third. The first place team was comprised of Justin Schaefer, Brendan Jamerson, Braydon Kime and Brandon Powell, while the third place team included Zach Crumpacker, Aaron Schafer, Dylan Witt and Jakob Hein.

Kelsey Taylor and Adrienne Dexel placed first and second in the 1650 yard freestyle, while Landon Adamo took first in the men's event. In the women's 200 yard freestyle, the Spires had placings from 2-5 led by Will's time of 2:10.45. (Justin) Schafer led the way in the men's event with a second place finish in a time of 1:52.35.

Sanford took home the 50 yard freestyle title in a time of 26.66, while Jamerson was the top male in the event placing first in 23.33.

The Spires continued to dominate in the 400 yard individual medley events, with the women taking second. The men's groups placed 1-3 in the 400 yard individual medley. Dexel and Kime would place second and first respectively in the 100 yard butterfly events, while Horsley and Anna Loch took home second and fourth place in the 100 yard freestyle. Powell and Weston Hutchings placed first and second in the same event with times of 52.12 and 53.01.

(Justin) Schafer also earned a first place finish in the 100 yard backstroke event, while Megan Dailey crushed the field in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 5:58.97. Jamerson led the way for the men in the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:05.16.

The Spires also took home first place finishes in the men's 200 yard freestyle relay and two mixed 200 yard relay events.

Both teams are currently scheduled to return to action on Feb. 4 for the KCAC Championships in Fremont, Neb.
