Swimming Teams Take Fifth At KCAC Championships

FREMONT, Neb. – The University of Saint Mary swimming teams had a busy week in the three-day KCAC Championships event on the campus of Midland University. Both teams placed fifth out of eight total teams on each side.

The women's team was also awarded the KCAC Team of Character award on Thursday. In total there were 27 school records broken during the three-day event.

DAY ONE
HIGHLIGHTS:
Saint Mary would swipe 10 school records on the first day of the championships.
- Emma Will, Megan Cutting, Kelsey Taylor and Grace Sanford set the school record in the women's 200 yard medley relay in a time of 1:54.71.
- Justin Schaefer, Joe McGuire, Braydon Kime and Brandon Powell also set the school record on the men's side with a time of 1:38.65.
- Taylor grabbed third place in the 500 yard freestyle and set the school mark at 5:21.17.
- Will grabbed a 13th place finish and set the school record in the women's 500 yard freestyle in a time of 2:19.47.
- Kime would set the school mark in the men's 200 individual medley at 2:01.23 (five milliseconds ahead of the previous record).
- Weston Hutchings came in 10th place in the men's 50 yard freestyle – setting the record at 22.29.
- Taylor, Will, Megan Dailey and Sanford came in fourth place in the 800 yard freestyle relay and set the school record with a time of 8:19.09.
- Kime, Landon Adamo, Powell and (Justin) Schaefer earned fourth place in the men's 800 yard freestyle and set a record in 7:16.96.

DAY TWO
HIGHLIGHTS:
11 school records were set on the second day of the KCAC Championships. The squads also saw their highest individual finishes in the men's and women's 100 yard backstroke events.
- Hutchings, Tevin Covington, Powell and Kime took second place in the men's 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.73 (breaking Day One's mark by 10 seconds).
- Zachary Crumpacker set the school record in the men's 400 individual medley in 4:41.92.
- Megan Cutting earned a school record in the women's 100 yard butterfly at 1:03.41.
- Kime set the mark in the men's butterfly event with a time of 53.05.
- Sanford would take home the school record in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.18.
- Sanford took home the school record and second place in the women's 100 yard backstroke at 1:00.60.
(Justin) Schaefer also earned second place in the men's 100 yard backstroke with a school record time of 52.67.
- Will, Cutting, Taylor and Sanford took fifth place in the 400 yard medley relay event in a school record time of 4:15.87.
- (Justin) Schaefer, McGuire, Kime and Powell also took fifth place in the same event, setting the school record in a time of 3:37.00.

DAY THREE
HIGHLIGHTS:
Another few school records were broken, while both teams wrapped up the KCAC Championships – placing in the top five.
- 1650 Free –Taylor broke the school record
- 200 Back –Will broke the school record, (Justin) Schaefer broke the school record. He held the KCAC record for about 8 hours until it was broken at finals.
- 100 Free – Sanford did not swim the individual event but broke the school record leading off the 400 Free Relay later in the evening.
- 200 Breast – McGuire broke the school record
- 200 Fly – Taylor and Braydon Kime broke the school records
- 400 Free Relay – both M & W broke the school record.

Both teams will close out the season at Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill. on Feb. 12.
