SPIRES WIN CONFERENCE TITLE AT KCAC OTF CHAMPIONSHIPS

Leavenworth, Kan.- The Spires Men’s Outdoor Track and Field teams came into day two of the KCAC Championships with hopes of adding to their already large lead for the conference title. They managed to do just that, taking first overall with a total of 179 points.

The men’s team got some valuable points in the discus as Chinedu Nwadike would finished first after throwing for a distance of 46.08m (151’ 2”). Tyler Cherne also scored, coming in seventh after throwing for 44.71m (146’ 8”)

Donel Jack finished second in the triple jump, jumping 14.16m (46’ 5.5”). Samson Shukuru finished seventh with a leap of 13.65m (44’ 9.5”).

Chinedu Nwadike added a 7th place finish in the men’s shot put with a distance of 13.99m.

The men’s 4x100m relay ran a smooth race with a time of 43.11 which gave them a 7th place finish.

In the men’s 1500 meter run, Luis Perez came in 2nd place with a finishing time of 3:55.27. Right behind Luis, Tommy Baker with a finishing time of 3:55.84 ended up in 3rd place. Dominick Beine also had a finishing time of 3:58 which gave him the 5th place finish. Jonah Godina scored a point for the Spires, coming in 8th place and a time of 4:03.

Elijah Cole won silver in the men’s 110m hurdles in 2nd place with a finishing time of 14.90.

The Spires had two sprinters place in the top 8 for the men’s 100 meter. KC Harrison placed 6th with a time of 11.00 and coming in 8th place was Nurye Brookins-Cornell.

The Spires earned another silver in the men’s 800 meter run as Luis Perez crossed the line with a time of 1:52.64.

The Spires had two athletes place in the top eight for the men’s 400m hurdles. Elijah Cole came in second with a time of 55.43 and Justin Johnston tallied in eighth place with a time of 1:01:48.

KC Harrison placed sixth in the 200m dash with a time of 22.31.

The Spires had 4 runners earn points for the Spires in the 5000m race. Dominick Beine won the race with a PR time of 14:47:52. Placing third for the Spires was Ryan Heline with a time of 14:58:26. Elvis Rojas-King finished with a time of 15:13:19 earning sixth place, and Daniel Pantoja finished in seventh place with a time of 15:17:58.

In a tight race to end the night, the Spires placed second the 4x4 relay with a finished time of 3:19.72.

Up Next: The Spires will take a crew to the Concordia Last Chance Meet in Seward, Nebraska on May 10th in an effort to hit a qualifying time or measure to qualify for the NAIA Championships. The NAIA Championships are currently scheduled for May 22-24.
