Men's Wrestling Goes 2-0 at OKWU Duals

Bartlesville, Okla.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Wrestling team competed in the Oklahoma Wesleyan Duals on Thursday. The Spires went 2-0, defeating Central Baptist 48-3 and Texas Wesleyan 36-18. Saint Mary is now 9-3 in team duals on the year.

Central Baptist

The Mustangs left the 125 weight class vacant to open the dual and got a win in the 131 weight class to make the score 6-3 in favor of the Spires. Another vacant weight class from Central Baptist helped USM extend their lead with seven more matches left in the dual. Saint Mary then rattled off five consecutive wins by fall from Hartwell Taylor (149), Josey Jernegan (157), Benjamin Vogt (165), Braden Headington (174), Gabe Chesbro (184) and Ryker Blackburn (197). A double-vacant heavyweight class gave Saint Mary the win and made the final score 48-3.

Texas Wesleyan

Brody Gee (125) got the Spires going in their second dual, defeating his opponent in the third period. The Rams left the 133 and 141 weight classes open, extending the Saint Mary lead. Austin Almaguer (149) won his match in a close 8-7 decision to make the team score 21-0. Jergegan (157) got his second win of the day, beating his opponent by fall in the second period. Losses in the 165 and 174 weight classes gave the Rams a bit of hope heading into the final stretch of the dual, but Chesbro (184) and Blackburn (197) closed the door on Texas Wesleyan, winning their matches and securing the win and helping the Spires go 2-0 at the duals.
