Spires Have Strong Showing at Missouri Valley Invite

Marshal, Mo.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Wrestling team competed in the Missouri Valley College Invite on Saturday. Four Spires also finished in the top ten of their respective weight classes. 

 

Brody Gee (125) had the best weekend for Saint Mary, going 5-0 and beating three of his opponents by fall, one by decision, and a win by major decision in the championship round. The next Spire to finish in the top ten was Hartwell Taylor (141), who won his first two tournament matches. A loss in the third round sent him to the consolation bracket, where he went 4-1 to secure a seventh-place finish for Saint Mary. 

 

Josey Jernegan (157) had the Spires's third top-ten finish on the weekend, finishing in sixth place with a record of 4-3 in the tournament. Ryker Blackburn (197) had the second-highest finish for Saint Mary, going 4-2 for fifth place in his weight class.
