Hartwell Taylor Becomes First National Champion in Program History
Park City, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Wrestling team sent eight wrestlers to the NAIA National Championship Meet, which ended on Saturday. The Spires had two wrestlers achieve All-American status and one national champion.
Hartwell Taylor (141) became the first national champion in program history. Taylor went a perfect 5-0 on the weekend, winning three matches by decision, one by fall, and an overtime win in the quarterfinal round. He was crowned a national champion and an All-American after beating his opponent by decision 4-2. Taylor finished the year with an overall record of 38-4 en route to his championship.
Brodt Gee (125) became an All-American after going 4-2 overall on the weekend and finishing in seventh place. Gee won two matches by fall and two by decision and finished the year with an overall record of 35-5.
