Softball Drops Both Games in Doubleheader Against Park

Parkville, Mo.- The University of Saint Mary Softball team traveled to take on the Park Pirates for a mid-week matchup on Wednesday, resulting in a 9-1 loss and a 4-1 loss. The Spire's record is now 4-5 overall.

Game One

Saint Mary struck first in the top half of the opening inning after Megan Brinkman doubled to left center and drove in Alexis McDaniel to make it 1-0. The Pirates answered in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run. Briana Solis was able to hold Park scoreless in the second, retiring the side in order. After a one-two-three inning for the Spires in the third, the Pirates scored four runs off three hits and an error, giving Park a five-run lead. Allie Cox can in to pitch in the bottom of the fourth, giving up four more runs to the Pirates, making it 9-1. The Spires threatened to score in the top half of the fifth after Brinkman and McDaniel got on, but Saint Mary was not able to get any runners across the plate and dropped game one 9-1.

Game Two

Alexis McDaniel continued to produce for the Spires in the second game with a lead-off home run to make it 1-0. Saint Mary held onto that one-run lead for the majority of the game. Starter Megan Brinkman held the Pirates to just four hits and zero runs through four innings. After surrendering a run via an error and a home run in the bottom half of the fifth, Park made it a three-run ball game in their favor. Saint Mary was unable to tie things up in the top of the seventh and lost game two 4-1. McDaniel led the Spires on offense, going 2-5 with two runs and one RBI on the day.

Saint Mary will host Concordia University for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Leavenworth, Kan.
