Spires Take Game One on Day Three In Florida

Viera, Fla.- The University of Saint Mary Softball team continued play in the USSSA Space Coast Tournament on Thursday, defeating Cornerstone University, 4-0. The Spires are now 11-7 on the season.

The Spires got things going in the second inning as Sadie McWilliams had an RBI double that scored Jessica Strandlund, giving USM the early lead. Good defensive play by both teams resulted in no runs scored through two innings until Saint Mary struck again in the fifth. This time Alexis McDaniel drove in Tatiana Halupa to extend the Spires lead.

Later, Allyson Dias laid a sacrifice bunt down the third base line that allowed McDaniel to cross home plate to make the score 3-0. As the game was winding down, Brittnee Wimbish hit an RBI single that drove Dias in to put an exclamation mark on the game, helping Saint Mary pull away to win 4-0. Starter Jordan Reynolds got the win as she pitched six innings while McDaniel went three for three from the plate with an RBI.
