Lindsborg, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Softball team played a doubleheader against Bethany College on Sunday, losing 10-7, and then 6-0. The Spires are now 14-9 on the season and 0-2 in the KCAC.

Game One

Saint Mary struggled to produce run early in the game as the Swedes jumped out to a 9-0 lead through four innings. Later, Natalie Bruce sparked a comeback as she hit a two-run RBI to put the Spires on the board. This led to Alexis McDaniel hitting a sacrifice fly into right field, driving in Victoria GutierrezBriana Solis then capped off the four-run inning with a single to center field that scored Bruce, making it 9-4. Bethany then built their lead to six runs in the top sixth inning. McDaniel and Allyson Dias gave the Spires hope with their late RBIs in the seventh, but the rally was not enough to overcome the early deficit and lost 10-7.

Game Two

Much like the first game, Bethany scored multiple runs in the early innings to give them a 6-0 lead. The Spires were once again unable to put up runs in the first few innings in order to chip away at the Swede's extended lead. In the fifth inning, Saint Mary broke through and got their first run on the board after Solis hit an RBI single to left field in the top of the fifth that scored Gutierrez. Later in the seventh inning, Allie Cox hit a solo home run to make it a 6-2 ball game. However, Saint Mary could not continue the offensive output making the final score 6-2. Cox led the Spires at the plate, going two for two with an RBI in the second game.
