Spires Swept on Senior Day

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Softball team played a doubleheader against York University Saturday, losing 7-2 and then 13-5. The Spires are now 19-24 on the season and 2-16 in the KCAC.

 

Game One

After the Panthers scored two early runs in the first inning, Sadie McWilliams hit an RBI double in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 2-1. The Panthers then went on a run, scoring four more runs over the next two innings. Another RBI single by McWilliams in the sixth was the last run that the Spires scored in game one. York scored one more run in the seventh to run away with the 7-2 win. McWilliams went two for three at the plate with two RBIs.

 

Game Two

Saint Mary struck first at the start of game two as Natalie Bruce scored on an error. However, the Panthers answered in the third inning with eight runs to take a commanding lead. The Spires chipped away in the third inning with a couple of RBIs from Delaney Hess as well as an RBI from Bruce in the fourth inning to cut the Panther lead to 9-5. Following a weather delay, the Panthers put the game away in the fifth inning, making the final score 13-5. Bruce went one for two with an RBI and a run scored in game two.

The Spires will travel to take on Kansas Wesleyan University for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in Salina, Kansas.
