Softball Gets Swept By Pioneers

Olathe, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Softball team traveled to take on MidAmerica Nazarene on Wednesday, resulting in a 2-0 and a 3-0 loss. The Spires are now 1-3 to start the 2024 season.

Game One

Brianna Solis got the start in the circle for Saint Mary in game one. Solis single-handedly kept the Spires in the game as the innings went on. She threw five innings, giving up just three hits and no runs. The Saint Mary bats could not protect Solis by driving in runs and being held scoreless throughout the ballgame. Unfortunately, in the sixth inning, a two-run double by the Pioneers gave them a late 2-0 lead. Down to their last three strikes, the Spires could not get two runs across in the top of the seventh, dropping game one 2-0.

Game Two

Megan Brinkman got the ball to start in game two and, after a one-run first inning, settled in, throwing four scoreless innings. Sadie McWilliams got on base in the top of the fourth with a single to left field, and Ava Vander Weit followed with a walk. With two outs and two runners on, the Spires had a good scoring opportunity, but it was squandered with a flyout. The Pioneers built on their lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs on two hits. Saint Mary had no answer for the MidAmerica pitching, recording just one hit in the last two innings.
