Softball Drops Both Games to CMU

Fayette, Mo.- The University of Saint Mary Softball team traveled to play against the Central Methodist Eagles for a doubleheader on Sunday, resulting in two losses for the Spires. Saint Mary now holds an overall record of 11-11 heading into the beginning of conference play.

Game One

The Eagles jumped out to a quick lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Saint Mary was not able to produce any offense against the Eagles starting pitcher. Central Methodist continued to drive in runs, adding two more runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 7-0 lead. In the top half of the sixth inning, Audrey Spellman started things off with an infield single. Alexis McDaniel attempted to move Spellman over, but the Eagles took the lead out at second base and left McDaniels safe at first. The Spires were not able to get a run across the plate and eventually fell 8-0 to Central Methodist.

Game Two

Allie Cox got the start in the circle for game two. Cox settled in after a three-run first inning, giving up five hits and striking out one after the first. However, the Spires were held scoreless throughout most of game two as well. McDaniel had one of two hots for Saint Mary, and this one came at the top of the fourth. She made her way over to third base and was able to steal home after an error by the Eagles catcher, making it a 3-1 ball game. The Spires were held scoreless over the next three innings, dropping game two 3-1.
