Women's Basketball Wins Third Straight 76-67

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Basketball team hosted the Park Pirates on Saturday, resulting in a 76-67 win. The Spires are now 3-1 heading into their KCAC opener at home against Tabor.

Saint Mary got out in front early in the first quarter with a three-pointer by Tanea Sims, going up 3-1. Park began to score as the quarter continued, but two more three-point shots from Paige Pendley and Shelby Salter tied things up heading into the second quarter. Scoring picked up for both teams in the next quarter, but halfway through, Park had an advantage with a 23-20 lead. With just under two minutes to go, Demi Aamold hit two quick threes of her own that gave Saint Mary the lead 28-23. Pendley hit her free throws before the half to make it 30-26.

The Spires continued the high offensive output in the third quarter, going on an 8-2 scoring run and extending their lead by 12 with the score at 50-38. Alanis Delgado made a layup and a three at the start of the fourth quarter, making it 59-48. The Pirates then pressed hard, chipping away at the big Spire lead, and soon, it was 68-62 in favor of the Spires. Jerrica Johnson made three straight layups to put the game away for Saint Mary, eventually winning 76-67. Kaylani Hoskin, Sims, and Delgado all had ten points on the night, while Hoskin also had nine rebounds.
