Women's Basketball Wins Comfortably in Wichita

Wichita, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Basketball team played against the Friends Falcons Wednesday night, which resulted in an 84-66 win. The Spires are now 6-4 overall, and 3-3 in conference play, heading into a matchup with Kansas Wesleyan University Saturday night.

The first half started with Alanis Delgado hitting an early three-pointer to go up 3-0 on the Falcons. As the quarter went on, Paige Pendley and Jerrica Johnson helped USM claim a 25-11 lead. Kaylani Hoskin hit a shot to bring the quarter to a close, with Saint Mary on top 27-16. The second quarter featured strong defensive play by both teams. Midway through the quarter Tanea Sims and Mary Olson helped USM extend the Spire lead to ten. A late extended scoring run by Friends gave them the lead heading into halftime with the score at 43-42.

Johnson and Delgado scored multiple times to give Saint Mary a 56-49 lead to begin the third quarter. The Spires went on a run of their own to make it a six-point game as the quarter closed. Saint Mary looked to close out the game to start the fourth as Demi Aamold and Pendley hit back-to-back shots to go up by 12 on the Falcons. Strong defensive play by the Spires made it difficult for the Falcons to get anything going offensively, as Saint Mary won 84-66. Delgado led the team with 24 points while Pendley had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
