Pendley Has Double-Double but Spires Fall to KWU 78-69

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Basketball team played against the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes Saturday, resulting in a 78-69 loss. The Spires are now 6-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

The first half started with Paige Pendley scoring the Spire's first five points. Tanea Sims later helped Saint Mary extend that lead to 9-2. Midway through the first quarter, the Coyotes clawed back to tie the game. Demi Aamold helped the Spires secure a one-point lead to end the quarter with her late jumper. The second quarter featured back-and-forth play by both teams. Late in the quarter, Pendley nailed a three-pointer that put the Spires up 34-31 heading into halftime.

The third quarter started with the Spires pressing hard on offense, going up 39-33. As the quarter went on, the Coyotes started to get things rolling on offense. They ended the quarter on a nine-point scoring streak that put them in the lead 50-44. The Coyotes started to pull away in the fourth quarter after Saint Mary made another run at the lead. Shots by Sims and Jerrica Johnson kept the Spires in the game, but another scoring run by Kansas Wesleyan put them up by nine with a minute left. Free throws then gave the Coyotes a 78-69 win. Pendley led Saint Mary with 25 points and 12 rebounds on the night
