Spires Hit 17 Threes in Win Over Haskell

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Basketball team hosted the Haskell Fightin' Indians for a non-conference matchup on Monday, resulting in an 89-47 win. The Spires also broke the team record for most threes in a single game with 17; they are now 9-2 overall on the year.

 

After some back-and-forth scoring to begin the game, Saint Mary went on an 11-2 scoring run to build a nine-point lead over Haskell. Keely Barnard and Demi Aamold hit threes at the end of the first quarter, with the Spires leading 24-12. Paige Pendley got the first two buckets to open the second quarter, but a three-minute scoring lull by both teams kept the Saint Mary lead at 19 points. Summer Wieneke reignited the Spire's offensive output after hitting a three with under four minutes to go in the half. Saint Mary went on another extended scoring run to make the score 46-16 heading into the break. 

 

Haskell came out of halftime, scoring seven unanswered points in an attempt to cut into the growing Saint Mary lead. The Spires went on to hit five threes in the third quarter, outscoring the Fightin' Indians 25-18. Saint Mary continued to press offensively and forced multiple turnovers, cruising to an 89-47 win.
