Women's Basketball Wins Comfortably Over Valor 72-65

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Basketball team hosted the Evangel Valor on Saturday, resulting in a 72-65 win. The Spires are now 13-3 overall and 10-0 in the KCAC.

Paige Pendley and Demi Aamold got Saint Mary going with free throws and a three. Evangel was able to keep up with the USM scoring and took a 12-10 lead as time expired in the first quarter. Alanis Delgado hit a three to open the second quarter to give the Spires a one-point lead. With five minutes to go, Tanea Sims hit two layups to make it a five-point game. Barnard and Sims each hit threes to extend the USM lead to eleven. The Valor responded with another spark of offense, with time expiring in the half, cutting the Saint Mary lead down to five at one point. However, free throws from Sims made it a 28-21 ball team heading into the break.

A layup from Pendley and a three from Alyche Brown helped the Spires pick up right where they left off in the first half. Evangel could not sustain the offensive output from earlier and allowed Saint Mary to build their lead. Late threes from Barnard made it a 12-point game heading into the fourth quarter. Threes and mid-range jump shots brought the Valor back within three points of USM with four minutes left. More free throws from Saint Mary and a three from Pendley helped keep Evangel at bay and secure the 72-65 win.

The Spires had four players score in double-digit figures, including 17 points and 14 rebounds from Sims and 16 points with four threes from Barnard.
