Saint Mary Completes Season Sweep of Eagles

Kansas City, Mo. - The University of Saint Mary Women's Basketball team took on Avila Eagles on Saturday, resulting in a 73-47 win. A consistent stretch of games puts the Spires at an overall record of 16-4 and a conference record of 13-1.

 

The beginning of the game was steady, and both teams stayed close, as turnovers led to scoring opportunities. Saint Mary effectively capitalized on those turnovers and gained a steady lead. Summer Wieneke went two for two on three-pointers in the first quarter, helping the team take a 16-9 lead heading into the second. Teammate Paige Pendley added eight points in the second quarter by going four for four at the free throw line. 

 

An effective two quarters gave the Spires a 20-point 38-18 advantage to end the end of the half. Saint Mary continued to execute on offense at every moment of the game with rebounds, free throws, and timely turnovers. Going into the last quarter, USM continued to put pressure on the Eagles, scoring 23 points and securing the 73-47 win.

 

Demi Aamold led the Spires in scoring on the night with 15 points, while Tanea Sims recorded her tenth triple-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
