Women's Basketball Falls to Falcons 61-54

Wichita, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Basketball team took on Friends University Falcons on Saturday, resulting in a 61-54 loss. The Spires have an overall record of 19-5 and a KCAC record of 16-2.

 

The Spires got onto the board first with a made layup by Paige Pendley. Friends answered by going on a 12-0 run, forcing Saint Mary to call a timeout. Out of the timeout, Pendley made another two-pointer to get the offense back in rhythm. A three by Rebecca Gilpin cut the Falcon's lead down to six. Friends continued to extend their lead as the first half went on, while Saint Mary tried to mitigate the damage, trailing 32-24 at the half.

 

Friends kept trying to extend the lead as the second half went on. With six minutes left in the game, they held a 14-point lead. Alanis Delgado hit a three-point shot to cut the lead down to 11. Tanea Sims and Keely Barnard made shots to help the Spires continue their momentum. With the score being 53-45, Pendley made a 3-pointer to bring it down to five. The Spires finally got the lead down to one with 2 minutes to go. The Falcons extended the lead back up to five, but Barnard's jump shot cut it back down to three. As time ran down, the Spires could not complete the comeback.

 

Tanea Sims recorded her 13th double-double in KCAC play with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
