Saint Mary Drops Home Opener 1-0 to Doane University

Leavenworth, Kan.- Women's Soccer opened their season at home Saturday against the Doane University Tigers in a 1-0 loss.

Early in the first half Saint Mary was unable to get sustained pressure in the Tiger's part of the field. The Doane attack held and broke through roughly halfway through the half, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Saint Mary threatened later in the half, but could not get a goal in the net. Shortly after the Spires push, inclement weather would stop the game for roughly 30 minutes. Play continued after the rain delay, and the last part of the half ended without any scoring.

Doane's 1-0 lead held for the rest of the second half, even after multiple early scoring opportunities for the Spires. Katy St. Martin had two opportunities to score a goal close to the end of the game but could not get the ball past Doane's keeper. St. Martin led the team in shots with two, and Carina Cox led the Spires on goal with 11 saves.
