Women's Soccer Falls to No.22 Benedictine College

Atchison, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Soccer team played the nationally ranked Benedictine College Wednesday night, losing 5-0.

The Ravens controlled the ball early in the first period, but the Spires defense held strong, holding Benedictine scoreless through the first 20 minutes. Then, the Ravens took the lead on a corner kick, going up 1-0. Saint Mary remained the on the defensive after that, with Maea Ploetz making two saves. Eight minutes after their first goal, Benedictine scored a second on a rebound that followed a Ploetz save, giving the Ravens a 2-0. Benedictine scored two more goals before the end of the half, putting the Spires down 4-0 heading into halftime.

Saint Mary began the second period with more pressure on the Ravens, and ten minutes in, Karleigh Enyart took a shot on a corner kick from Erin Walden. After that, the Spires fell back on the defensive but held the Ravens scoreless for most of the second. The Spires gave up one more goal with under five minutes left on the game to make the final score 5-0. Ploetz finished the night with 12 total saves.
