Spires Drop to Park on the Road

Parkville, Mo.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Soccer team went on the road to play Park University Wednesday night, losing 6-1. The Spire's overall record is now 0-4 with a weekend off ahead of them.

Park opened the scoring just six minutes into the game, but Saint Mary held strong the rest of the half, holding the Pirates to only one goal. Shortly after the early Park goal, Saint Mary had a chance of their own with Katy St. Martin setting up a corner kick. The Spires had multiple scoring chances throughout the early stages of the game, but none found the back of the net in what was a hotly contested first period. Right before the half, Katheryn Molina nearly tied up the game for Saint Mary. However, the shot was saved, sending the Spires into halftime down 1-0.

Period two started with three quick Park goals, one being a penalty kick, giving the Pirates a 4-0 lead. The Spires answered with a goal of their own when Karleigh Enyart found the back of the net after a long free kick, cutting Park's lead to just three. Saint Mary would give up two more goals but held the Pirates scoreless for the last 20 minutes of the game, making the final 6-1.

"We played a great first half," said Head Coach Justin Seever. "Not sure what happened to begin the second half Park found some channels that were not there in the first. Karleigh (Enyart) hit a rocket of a free kick to give us some life late."
