Women's Soccer Falls to Ottawa 2-1

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Soccer team took on the Ottawa Braves Saturday afternoon and lost 2-1. The Spires are now 0-7-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the KCAC.

The Braves opened the scoring five minutes into the game, converting a penalty kick and taking a 1-0 lead. Saint Mary responded with a goal of their own when Morgan Young scored on a rebound to tie the game up at one. The Spires continued the offensive pressure throughout the rest of the first period but were unable to find the back of the net. Katheryn Molina nearly sent the spires into halftime with the lead, but the ball sailed just wide of the net.

In the second half, Ottawa scored again quickly to give them a 2-1 lead that held until the final whistle. Saint Mary kept creating scoring opportunities as time went by but could not get that game-tying goal they needed. In a last-ditch effort, the Spires had two corner kicks, taken by Katy St. Martin, in the final three minutes of regulation in an attempt to end the game in a tie. Those set pieces were unsuccessful as the Spires fell 2-1.
