Women's Soccer Beats Avila for Third Straight Win

Kansas City, Mo.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Soccer team hit the road on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Avila Eagles, winning 1-0. The Spires are now 4-9-1 and 4-4-1 in the KCAC, having now won four of their last five games.

Saint Mary pressed hard to begin the game, with Katy St. Martin taking multiple shots in the first twenty minutes. The Spires found the back of the net with eighteen minutes to go in the first half when Morgan Young buried a shot from Erin Walden's free kick. The goal gave Saint Mary the 1-0 advantage going into halftime.

In the second half, the Spires continued to apply offensive pressure with corner kicks and shots on goal. Goal Keeper Maea Ploetz accumulated four saves on the day while holding the Eagles scoreless. Saint Mary pressed one more time late in the second half to score one more goal and seal the victory. The Spires could not find the back of the net one last time but did keep the Eagles at bay and won 1-0.
