Rodgers Penalty Kick Helps Spires Tie Pirates 1-1

Leavenworth, Kan.– The University of Saint Mary Women's Soccer team took on Park University Wednesday, resulting in a 1-1 tie. The Spires now have an overall record of 0-2-1.

After early offensive production by the Pirates and Spires, both teams failed to find the back of the net for the rest of the game. The Pirates got on the board first with a goal in the sixth minute of play. Saint Mary responded three minutes later as Junior, Abby Rodgers, buried a penalty kick to tie things up at 1-1. Katy St. Martin had an opportunity to give the Spires the lead right before halftime, but the shot traveled wide to the right.

Both teams had multiple opportunities to score in the second half. The Spires goalie, Marisol Vargas, fended off the continued shots Park sent her way. Vargas recorded nine total saves on the night, giving her a save percentage of 90 percent.
