Spires Have Strong Weekend at Pitt State Invite

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Indoor Track and Field team competed in two different meets this weekend, splitting between the Wendy's/ Pittsburg State Invite and the Concordia Classic. 

 

Pitt State

Maddy Walter-Sherretts was one of multiple Spires to have a top-ten on the weekend; in the 600-yard, she ran with a time of 1:30 flat and a ninth-place finish. Carlie Gregg was the next for Saint Mary to finish in the top ten, taking sixth place in the one-mile event and nearly hitting an NAIA standard at 5:10.19. 

 

In the 3000m run, Riley Hiebert ran a 10:04.93 for a second-place finish. Right behind Hiebert in the same event was Kate Madsen, who ran a 10:20.19 and finished in third. Josie Tyrrell, Hannah Showalter, and Shannen Dorn performed strongly in the 5000m events. They all finished in the top 20, and Tyrrell hit an NAIA A standard as well as a third-place finish. 

 

The final event to crack the top five for Saint Mary was the distance medley relay team of Sherretts, Lexi Wardlow, Gregg, and Reagan Hiebert, who finished with a time of 12:13.62, good enough for a fifth-place finish.

 

Concordia Classic

Samantha Colson had a top-five finish in the 60m event with a time of 7.93 seconds, good enough to take fourth place. Colson also placed in the top ten of the 200m event with a time of 26.78 and a seventh-place finish. In the 400m event, Carissa Martin added to the stretch of solid performances with an eighth-place finish and a time of 1:03.14. Martin had another top-ten finish in the triple jump event with a mark of 10.59 meters.

The indoor track and field teams will compete in the Bearcat Invite hosted by Northwest Missouri State on Friday and Saturday in Maryville, Missouri.
