Kenitzer Breaks All-Time Kills Record in Win Over Swedes

Lindsborg, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Volleyball team played the Bethany Swedes on Saturday, resulting in a 3-0 win. The Spires are now 15-6 overall and 4-2 in KCAC action. 

 

The Spires went on a 7-1 run to open the first set. Bethany could not match the offensive output of Saint Mary as they took an 18-9 lead. The Spires ran away with set one, winning 25-14. Riley Kenitzer and Maddie Folsom each had multiple kills. 

 

In set two, Saint Mary went on an 8-2 run, taking a 17-10 lead. The Spires again had superior offensive play and won the second set 25-19, giving them a 2-0 lead. 

 

The Swedes came out in the third set looking to avoid the sweep and were two points behind the Spires in the early goings. Saint Mary answered down the stretch, going on a 7-2 run, winning the third set 25-15. 

 

Folsom and Kenitzer led the Spires on offense with a combined 21 kills on the day. Kenitzer became the all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,114 kills as a Spire. Abby Hairell facilitated the offense with 34 assists and four kills herself.

The Spires will be on the road to play Stephens College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Columbia, Missouri.
