Spires Sweep Southwestern

Winfield, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Volleyball team traveled to play the Southwestern Builders, resulting in a 3-0 win. The Spires are now 18-8 overall and 6-4 in conference play.

 

Keagan Shockley and Madison Folsom got things going for Saint Mary to give them a 3-0 lead. A run from the Builders brought them within one point to make it 12-11. The Spires answered by going on a 10-2 run and solidified a 22-13 lead over Southwestern. An attack error by the builders and a kill from Ainsley Gardner closed the door on set one with a 25-15 win. 

 

Saint Mary opened the second set with a 5-0 run to take an early 8-3 lead. A kill from Renata Dominguez made it a 13-10 game midway through the set. Saint Mary went on another run that started after a kill from Gardner. The Spires 5-1 run gave them a five-point lead. Two consecutive kills from Folsom and one from Rylee Kenitzer gave Saint Mary a 25-19 win in set two. 

 

Southwestern struck quickly in the third set, putting up eight quick points on Saint Mary to make it 8-4. A 10-2 run that ended with a kill from Kenitzer flipped the momentum back in the Spire's favor. The Builders could not keep up with the offensive output of Saint Mary. Kills from Shockley, Kenitzer, and Renata Dominguez had kills to help give Saint Mary the win in the set and the 3-0 win overall. Folsom led the Spires in kills with ten, while Devyn Ford had four total blocks on the night.
