Women's Wrestling Comes Back to Beat Avila 30-18

Kansas City, Mo.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Wrestling team traveled to take on the Avila Eagles on Thursday, resulting in a 30-18 win. The Spires are now 1-0 in duals this year. 

 

After a vacant 101 weight class, Alexsys Jacquez (109) got things going for Saint Mary, winning by fall to tie the dual at five. The Spires went down 15-5 after leaving vacant the 123 and 116 weight classes. Alisha Van Scoy put Saint Mary within five points of the Eagles, also winning her match by fall. A loss in the 136 weight class made the dual 18-6 in favor of Avila. However, the Spire came storming back, winning the next four consecutive matches. Allison King (143) won via tech fall to begin the streak. Ariana Mercado (155), Amelia Frounfelter (170), and Lessly Sandoval (191) all won their matches by fall to complete the comeback for a 30-18 win.
